The goal of the Klice Piano Studio is to instill a true life-long love of music learning to each student. We are student-centered and learning centered. We teach all types of students, attending to their learning styles, current level of education, and interests both musical and non-musical.
The Klice Piano Studio offers private one-on-one piano lessons. In addition, we also offer group workshops, recitals, on-line performance opportunities, and adjudication opportunities.
The Klice Piano Studio utilizes music curricula developed by the Washington State Music Teachers Association, as well as the Music Teachers Association of California. In addition, the KPS utilizes a jazz curriculum developed by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Beginning students follow a piano method course such as the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures Course, Alfred Premier Piano Course, the Music Moves for Piano Series, or the Hal Leonard Student Piano Library. Supplemental materials are included at each level of study. Intermediate and advanced students learn level-appropriate classical literature, level-appropriate jazz/pop literature, and level-appropriate piano ensemble literature. Students learn to read traditional music notation, as well as jazz/pop chart or lead sheet notation. Ear training is incorporated at every level of instruction, as well as piano technique, music theory, composition, improvising, and creating.
The Klice Piano Studio now accepts adult students. A course of study is designed and implemented for each adult student, using literature and materials that meet goals decided upon by both the adult student and the instructor.
The Klice Piano Studio is noted for its encouragement of each and every student. It is also noted for its demonstration of patience and perseverance.
Underlying the KPS philosophy is the concept of motivation. Each student is assigned music that she/he likes and wants to learn, leading to the self-discipline to practice, learn and perform that music successfully.
The KPS philosophy views music learning as part of the big “STEAM” picture: science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. Alumni of the Klice Piano Studio have demonstrated their love of learning by becoming professional musicians, amateur musicians, teachers, doctors, engineers, mathematicians, investment advisors, filmmakers, and business people. They have attended schools such as NYU, Stanford, Columbia, Princeton, Harvard, Dartmouth, UC Berkeley, Berklee College of Music, the University of Michigan, the University of Washington, Arizona State, and Bryn Mawr College.
