Attendance/Absences
Each new student receives an interview/short introductory lesson with the instructor, in order to ask questions, establish goals, and establish a comfortable rapport.
After a successful interview, each new student commits to a trial period of three lessons.
After the trial period of three lessons, each student then commits to a complete semester of lessons (Fall or Spring). There is NO withdrawal policy until the end of each semester except in special circumstances.
Students must attend all lessons. If a lesson must be missed, please call or e-mail the teacher at least 24 hours in advance. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice must be paid for unless some other arrangement has been made with the teacher.
If the teacher misses a lesson, either no fee will be charged, or a make-up lesson will be scheduled.
Calendar
The Klice Piano Studio follows the same academic calendar as most of our regional public and private schools.
Tuition
Tuition is due at the end of each month for that month’s lessons by check or cash. $40 per 30-40 minute lesson at either the Los Feliz studio or La Cañada studio; piano instruction in an individual’s home is slightly more expensive, depending on distance traveled. Tuition does not include books, any recital fees, or any audition/music festival fees. The teacher will notify you of any pending additional fees. 60 minute lessons are available for more advanced students. Ask for more information.
Practice
Students should have a regular, non-interrupted practice time or times on a well-tuned acoustic instrument, or a digital piano with weighted keys and damper pedal. Piano playing should be a daily habit. Length of practice time varies according to the student’s age, learning style and abilities. Students are encouraged to work towards musical goals – these goals are more important than the minutes practiced. Students should keep a practice log of accomplished daily goals, or minutes, or both.
Supplies
Students should bring to each lesson their assignment notebook, all required music books, and a recording device if possible.
At home a student should have at or near the piano a sharpened pencil, a metronome, a CD player or computer, and, if possible, a recording device.
Performance Opportunities
Students are given opportunities to perform throughout the academic year. The Winter Recital is usually held on a Sunday in January. The Spring Recital is held in May or June. The Klice Studio Festival is held every April, and offers adjudication by a certified pianist/educator in the Los Angeles area. Voluntary Saturday morning workshops are offered intermittently throughout the year. Other playing/adjudication opportunities are also available for your child, such as the MTNA Auditions, Piano Guild Auditions, and the MTAC Certificate of Merit program; ask your teacher for more information.
